Here’s our pick of the top 10 things to see and do:

1. Be inspired at the Awards of Excellence

The Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) Awards of Excellence are once again part of 2019 Packaging and Processing Week. This year, they have a unique sustainability twist. Walk along the bubble-wrap “red-carpet” entrance, take your seat at the Gala Awards Ceremony on 27 March and be inspired by the best in the industry. (This is open to all APPMA members and exhibitors; there are still a few tickets left, so make sure you sign up quickly!)

2. Unveil the ‘factory of the future’

Head over to the AUSPACK Business and Industry Conference 2019 to hear smart factories mentor John Broadbent demystify the rapidly changing technical environment of smart factories, Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT). This promises to be an insightful talk as he delves into evidence manufacturers who have seen big rewards, including an increased supply chain visibility and higher customer satisfaction. (Before you go, read up on a manufacturer’s practical guide to the technologies driving Industry 4.0, what you need to know about Industry 4.0, lean manufacturing + Industry 4.0 as the next level of operational excellence and empowering people as a key to Industry 4.0 strategy.)

3. See IIOT connectivity

Come and visit Matthews Australasia at stand D140 to see a suite of intelligent identification products designed to unlock the benefits of IIoT connectivity. If you can remember AUSPACK 2017, you’ll be amazed at the leaps we’ve made since then. (Rewind even further to our AUSPACK 2015 wrap-up and the new technologies at AUSPACK PLUS 2013).

4. Hear about blockchain and IoT technologies in action

John Baird will present a case study on ‘How Blockchain and IoT Provide Full Traceability of the Supply Chain’. Baird uncovers how the combination of blockchain and IoT technologies provides full supply chain traceability, ensuring authenticity and safety. (Catch up here on how blockchain can improve food traceability.)

5. Take your line to new heights.

AUSPACK is promising to showcase outstanding packaging and processing machinery that will set benchmarks for speed, flexibility and fast changeover capability. And if previous years are anything to go by, it won’t disappoint! You’re sure to be inspired by an array of solutions designed to optimise production efficiency and increase overall equipment effectiveness.

6. Focus on food security and safety

If you’re looking for ways to battle counterfeiters and improve food security and safety, AUSPACK has it covered. Investigate the latest coding and intelligent marking products and systems designed specifically to improve track and trace. Think 2D coding, serialisation and other unique identification tagging options. Read how track-and-trace can help you become a manufacturer of the future, and see whether 2018 was “the year of food fraud”, along with some food fraud prevention strategies.)

7. Witness the future of smart packaging

Active & Intelligent Packaging is emerging as a powerful interface between brand and consumer. But how does it work in action? You can see for yourself at AUSPACK 2019. Witness how smart-device enabled visual recognition technology can be linked to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications for experience-rich marketing campaigns via packaging.
